Per San Valentino, la ASCAP, (American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers - omologo americano della nostra SIAE) ha reso note le canzoni d’amore più eseguite in pubblico nel ventesimo secolo. A uscirne vincitrice è Diane Warren, autrice di 3 dei 5 brani più eseguiti degli anni ’90 (e, sorpresa, tra questi non c’è "My heart will go on", da "Titanic"): "How do I live" (cantata da LeAnn Rimes), "Because you loved me" (Celine Dion) e "Un-break my heart" (Toni Braxton); le altre due sono le da noi poco note "I swear" (eseguita tra gli altri da All-4-One e John Michael Montgomery) e "Baby, baby" (scritta e cantata da Amy Grant). In effetti, non si può negare che in Europa abbiano avuto più successo i brani che hanno fatto battere i cuori degli americani negli anni ’80, ad esempio "Up where we belong" (Joe Cocker), "Hard to say I’m sorry" (Chicago) o "I just called to say I love you". A proposito di quest’ultima, il suo autore Stevie Wonder è uno dei pochi presenti in due decenni diversi (negli anni ’70 cantò "You are the sunshine of my life").
